I got this ebook for free on Amazon from a recommendation through Bookbubs a while ago. I am so glad I finally decided to read it....Creative, chilling, graphic, and unpredictable. I've caught myself holding my breath. What would you do if all of a sudden you start to see children no one else can see?... Jake finds out his nephew has been taken by a serial killer. Are the children only he can see there to help him save his nephew?
It may not be for everyone, as it focuses on abortion and murder. As for me, it had me wondering. Definitely a page turner.

UNSEEN Mystery Suspense Thriller edition by John Michael Hileman Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews
I read some of the lower reviews. For me even if I think of this book being written for propaganda, Pro choice ... blah blah it was still a good read. Made me think of how many parents would do anything for their child. To be an addict can not be easy especially when you know you are not giving a child a good life. To have your child kidnapped I cant imagine. To bring those two together and the reason for your child to be kidnapped because someone else has deemed you not to be fit to raise the child and the child would be better dead because you are a teen mom, addict or just poor well that got me thinking. To have an addict just give it all up to save her child.. she loves her baby no matter what the age. The kids that were seen before being born well found it interesting and once again made me think .. does it change my mind on my opinion no .. but either way for me it was an interesting story line.
This book can be read easily within one day. I had no problem with the material covered as some reviewers did and don't regret the time spent reading this story. I did start out thinking that Jake was seeing something different with the children than it turned out to be, but I wasn't put off or offended by the direction the story took.
I could not really relate to Jenna's character. She was so sensitive that I was reminded of the character in Bedazzled when he wished to be the most sensitive man alive, or something of that sort. I wondered how she could walk down the street without falling apart. Thankfully, she was more of a minor character within the story.
I'm a little OCD about spelling, and normally I hate to read misspelled after misspelled words, but not in this case. The only places I noticed any words misspelled were during the toddler speak, and there was a clear purpose for that. It would have been unbelievable for toddlers to speak as an adult would. I'm guessing this is where some have a problem with misspelled words.
My problem with the story was the dialogue. I almost quit reading the story early on because it was so plain and pretty flat throughout the story, almost to the point of being boring. For that reason only I just couldn't rate it above a 3. If I had to do it over again, I would still read it.
Jake Paris starts out as your typical male character. Nice job and a beautiful wife. That, of course, is until a mysterious woman appears with a message for him and them he begins seeing unruly children all around - children only he can see...
Jake's sister, Holly, also finds herself in the middle of terrible situation. Her son has been kidnapped by a serial killer. Jake begins to wonder if these children have been sent to his to help him find his nephew. Have they? If so, what do they know? How can they help him?
The kidnapper begins to reveal what they want Holly to do in order to get her son back. What limits will Holly go to?
The children, that Jake has been seeing, have a secret. Will Jake figure it out in time?
Personally, I thought the concept of this book was intriguing but I figured out who the kidnapper was early in the book and wanted to shout at all of them. The "ghost children" were a little much for me but as the story develops and you figure out why they are there - it made sense.
I guess you should read this for yourself. Let me know what you think.
I should start by mentioning that I've read the David Chance series written by this author and I find his books well written, clever and easy to read (as in keeping your interest so you actually want to know what happens next). There aren't many authors that I've read more than one of their books so, having read four, I guess I would be considered a fan of his writing style. He writes in a way that discusses the supernatural while still maintaining some realistic qualities. This book, Unseen, is no exception. I won't get into the plot so as not to give anything away but I'll reiterate that it was a quick and interesting read. The character development in this one was particularly well done - you actually felt some concern or connection to some of the players. Well done by Mr. Hileman.
This story will not end the way you think it will. Yes, it involves a serial killer. Yes, it has children being abducted and families ripped apart. But man, does it trick you! I thought I had everything lined up and knew where it was heading only to have the rug pulled out from under me! For once, I was genuinely wrong about a plot and enjoyed it.
The characters are well written and draw you into their state of mind easily. The only hard part about the entire book was trying to decipher the dialogue of the youngest children. The author spelled it as the child would have actually said the words. The characters were flawed in a realistic way. I have to say that the only downfall to the book that I could find was that the ending seemed a little rushed. It was more like a quick tying up of loose ends rather than anything. However, the conclusion of the book was very much worth the ride to it.
This is one of those quick-to-read books that takes you on a wild ride through a bunch of twists and turns only to leave you with a good feeling toward the end. Without spoiling the entire book, I will simply say that I would have given it 3.5 stars because it was a good story that didn't drag things out or try to make itself seem larger than it truly was. Although I don't think it's one that I'll read over and over again, I definitely enjoyed it while I had it. If you're looking for something a little out of the ordinary to spend some time with, this is definitely the book to turn to!
